Our Safeguarding Policy
1. Statement of Commitment
Hope to Live Charity Organization is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the vulnerable elderly persons and their households we work with, as well as our staff, volunteers, and partners. We believe that everyone we work with has the right to be treated with dignity and respect, and to live free from abuse, exploitation, harassment, and harm.
2. Definitions
- Abuse: Any form of physical, emotional, sexual, or financial harm or neglect.
- Exploitation: Taking advantage of a person’s vulnerability or power imbalance for personal gain.
- Harassment: Any form of unwanted behavior that is offensive, intimidating, or creates a hostile environment.
- Harm: Physical, emotional, or psychological injury or damage.
3. Code of Conduct
All staff, volunteers, and partners are expected to adhere to the following code of conduct:
- Treat all elderly persons and their households with respect and dignity.
- Do not discriminate on the basis of gender, age, ethnicity, religion, or any other characteristic.
- Do not engage in any form of abuse, exploitation, harassment, or harm.
- Respect the privacy and confidentiality of the elderly persons and their households we work with.
- Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the designated safeguarding focal point.
4. Recruitment and Selection Procedures
Our NGO will undertake the following recruitment and selection procedures to ensure that staff and volunteers are suitable to work with vulnerable elderly persons and their households:
- Conduct background and reference checks for all staff and volunteers.
- Ensure that all staff and volunteers have undergone relevant training and are aware of our safeguarding policy and procedures.
5. Reporting and Response Procedures
All safeguarding concerns will be treated seriously and investigated promptly. Our NGO will undertake the following procedures:
- Designate a safeguarding focal point who will receive and manage all safeguarding concerns.
- Ensure that all safeguarding concerns are reported immediately to the safeguarding focal point.
- Conduct a thorough investigation of the concern, in accordance with our procedures.
- Take appropriate action to address the concern, which may include disciplinary action, reporting to relevant authorities, or providing support to those affected.
If you have a safeguarding concern related to Hope to Live, our staff, or its representatives, please report it immediately.
Report a complaint, or suspected witnessed safeguarding incident by writing an email to Hope to Live’s lead on safeguarding, Rehema Rashid through concerns@hopetolivekenya.org
If the report is about the mentioned above person, or is adversely mentioned, and or after sending the report, the person reporting is not satisfied with the feedback given, please report the matter to the CEO through oscar@hopetolivekenya.org or hopetolivekenya@gmail.com. You can as well contact the Board through governance@hopetolivekenya.org or
You may also file a safeguarding incident through your contact person at Hope to Live Charity Organization or your Direct Line Manager if you are a staff of Hope to Live, or through Hope to Live’s Chief Executive Officer.
6. Confidentiality and Information Sharing
Hope to Live Charity Organization will handle all safeguarding concerns with the utmost confidentiality and will only share information when it is necessary to protect the safety and well-being of those involved. We will ensure that all staff and volunteers are aware of their obligations to maintain confidentiality.
7. Training and Awareness
All staff, volunteers, partners, and beneficiaries will receive training and awareness-raising activities to ensure they understand their rights and responsibilities and know how to report safeguarding concerns.
8. Monitoring and Review
Our NGO will regularly monitor and review our safeguarding policy and procedures to ensure that they remain effective and up-to-date.
